The Birth of Yamazaki 12 Years Japanese Whisky
Inspired by traditional Scottish whisky, Suntory's founder - Shinjiro Torii - envisioned a Japanese approach to whisky by choosing a terrain and climate completely different to that of Scotland to create a unique kind of whisky. Hence, the Yamazaki Distillery was established in 1923 as Japan's first and oldest malt whisky distillery to date.
With the Yamazaki Distillery came the birth of Japanese whisky.
The Yamazaki Distillery is nestled on the periphery of Kyoto, where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers converge, providing a misty climate and a supply of one of Japan's softest waters. The diversity of the region's temperature and humidity creates the ideal conditions for cask again, known as the signature "Suntory Maturation".
Introducing the Yamazaki 12 Years: intense, confident and elegant. This pioneer single malt whisky has won several awards over the past years and is one of the most loved single malts up to date. Spiritual and deep, its signature multi-layered taste is highly praised by whisky connoisseurs all over the world.
